Hourly Wage Calculator
Calculate your hourly rate from a salary and a number of hours worked.
52 weeks minus about 5 weeks of paid leave, by default.
How is this result calculated?
The hourly rate is calculated in two steps. First the average monthly hours, monthly_hours = weekly_hours × (weeks_worked / 12), then the hourly rate itself, hourly_rate = monthly_salary / monthly_hours.
The daily equivalent assumes hours are spread over 5 working days a week: daily_equivalent = hourly_rate × (weekly_hours / 5). The annual equivalent is simply the monthly salary multiplied by 12, without accounting for a possible 13th-month payment or bonuses.
By default, the number of weeks worked is set to 47: this corresponds to the 52 weeks in a year minus about 5 weeks of paid leave (25 working days, the standard full-time entitlement in France). This value stays editable in the corresponding field to match a different situation (public holidays, extra days off, seniority...).
Frequently asked questions
Where does the 47-week assumption come from?+
It corresponds to 52 weeks in a year minus about 5 weeks of paid leave (25 working days, the standard full-time entitlement in France). This isn't a fixed rule: you can change this number directly in the corresponding field to match your situation (public holidays, extra days off, seniority...).
What's the difference between a 35-hour and a 39-hour work week?+
The weekly hours you enter directly change the monthly hours used to compute the hourly rate: for the same monthly salary, a 39-hour week gives a lower hourly rate than a 35-hour week, since the same salary is spread over more hours.
Is this calculator suitable for a freelancer or self-employed worker?+
No. It's designed for an employee earning a fixed monthly salary based on a regular number of hours. A freelancer or self-employed worker charges a daily or hourly rate that must also cover business expenses, unpaid time off, and periods without work, none of which this calculator accounts for.
How do I adjust the result if my number of weeks worked differs from 47?+
Simply change the "weeks worked / year" field to your own value (for example 52 if you take no leave at all, or less if you have more than 5 weeks of leave or extra days off). The hourly rate and equivalents recalculate automatically.
